me:    gardner’s grendel was gay.  the traditional iteration of grendel’s mother had excessive body hair and a beard.  the ‘females’ of grendel’s species and related subspecies were more broadly built, flat chested, and physically powerful than their ‘male’ counterparts.  grendel is illustrated in both early and contemporary interpretations as having both notable masculine muscle definition and obvious breasts.  he and his kind  –  in all their reflections of the “scary” elements of queer people, i.e. the “outside perspective” of it  –  are rejected by human society because they don’t look or behave in a way that said society is acquainted with.  when they fight back against that notion, they’re punished and blamed for fighting fire with fire.  the reflection speaks for its fucking self, do i really have to expl
